Triple Pump Control System
We were tasked to design and build a system to control the delivery of river water to a factory to be used in their manufacturing process to provide cooling water to machinery and to be used in various parts of the factory as process water.
Working together with the client we derived a specification and set about designing a PLC program to work in unison with a HMI, also designed by us. Their current set up was installed many years previously and was an inefficient system that had 'had its day'. The pump house was down by a river which was around half a mile from the factory over a main road and behind other business and residential premises, meaning they had no network in the pump house, only a power feed from a local sub. We came up with a solution utilising IOT gateway and 4G to provide remote viewing of the HMI to monitor conditions from the factory without having to send someone a fair distance to check a screen.
The problem we then had was signal, because the pump house is in a valley, the 4G reception is non existent, so we sourced an antenna designed to provide signal in remote areas, that we could install externally on the pump house to provide full 4G signal to the gateway and provide remote viewing of the system from anywhere in the world from a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
